Insect Physiology Readings

In part, this is going to be constructed from the bibliography drafts turned in the 2nd class. This is to ensure the class is relevant to the participants.

I expect we will cover a diverse set of topics tentatively including the following (although topics will be included to match needs of participants):
  • At least one week on specific physiology associated with adaptation to desert environment
  • 1-2 weeks on some aspect of digestion, probably using at least one paper from the Wells' group
  • 1 week on physiology of Bt resistance
  • 1 week on some aspect of symbiont-host relationships and effect on physiology
  • 1-2 weeks on defense against disease (immune response)
  • 1 week on physiology related to feeding or sensing food sources
  • 1 week on flight-related physiology, or adaptations
  • At least one week on some aspect of neurophysiology
  • 1-2 weeks on some aspects of development

  • Other suggestions? I have zillions more ideas; this course can be optimized in many different ways.
